About US

Yukon Expedition Sleds was started by Ryan MacGillivray, in Whitehorse, Yukon in 2014.    Back then it was called Wicked Expedition Sleds. In 2019, Ryan rebranded to the Yukon Expedition Sleds you see today.

These sleds were originally built as a hobby, but very quickly turned into an obsession.

Ryan, is a passionate hunter and explorer. His 10 year career working as a heavy duty mechanic at Ekati Diamond mine on the NWT tundra, gave him a lot of time to hunt, fish and explore all over the North.

Ryan was frustrated with the dependability issues of fiberglass and molded plastic sleds in cold conditions.  He was annoyed by broken metal hitches and the fact that everything transported in the sleds got destroyed, because there was no way to easily secure cargo.  To solve these problems, he started building his own sleds from a flat material called UHMW.  He started out by replicating a popular style used in Alaska.... these early models proved to be extremely dependable but they filled up with snow,  the ropes always came loose, cargo slid everywhere, and you could not reverse them when heavily loaded.

At this point, Ryan started to experiment with different ways to solve all these problems.  He spent years experimenting with different designs, testing, adjusting, etc....

10 years of hard work and over 15,000 hours of research and development have led to the product that customers see today.

Our passion is creating products that truly last a life time and that people enjoy using.   We love packing big camps in the wilderness without any worry about if the sled will break.

Our motto is GO FURTHER WITH YES because you CAN.

Our mission is to stop filling the arctic landfills with sleds that don't stand the test of time

Our future is to continue to manufacture products for the harshest conditions in the world

Our Value we are expensive because we hand craft every product in Whitehorse, Canada.  We use the highest quality materials that will outlast all others.   Our products don't wear out so we must make a profit on the original sale because the product will last  a life time.  The initial cost is high, but when divided over a 20 year period the savings are incredible.

Now, Yukon Expedition Sleds is going into its 10th year and is expanding its reach around the world.

More about us

Here is some more information about us

What are Yukon Expedition Sleds Made From?

Sleds are made from Ultra Violet Light Stable Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UVS UHMWPE).   This material is very special because it only comes in flat sheets that cannot be injection molded or welded.   These sheets are used primarily for industrial wear plating because it last 13x longer than steel of equal thickness when dragged on rocks and sand. It also stays flexible down to -107 degrees making it ideal for cold climates.    It also had incredibly high impact resistance so it can hit hard things very fast without cracking or breaking
